Our vision and values are achieved through the teaching and learning of our unique and exciting curriculum. On these pages you will find lots of information about how we structure our curriculum and the some of the plans that go behind it.
Early Years Foundation Stage
The curriculum for children in our nursery (aged 0-4), and in Year R in the school (aged 4-5), is based on statutory guidance set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. There are seven areas of learning taught through the characteristics of effective teaching and learning. These are: ‘playing and exploring’, ‘active learning’ and ‘creating and thinking critically’.
At Bramble Infant School and Nursery we enhance our EYFS curriculum by teaching children about our four STAR values. In addition to this, when the children reach Year R, the curriculum is delivered through adult led projects which help to develop areas of knowledge and understanding that are built upon in Key Stage 1.
We have developed our own ‘Bramble EYFS Stepping Stones’ which sequence key developmental and learning expectations for children across the whole EYFS. Click on the link below to find out more.
'Projects' and our 'Integrated Curriculum'
In Year 1 and Year 2 we integrate some National Curriculum subjects and teach their content (knowledge and skills) through a project. This allows for deeper, connected learning for the children. Across their time in the school, children will learn through projects that are led by a range of the KS1 National Curriculum subjects and they will learn the particular disciplines for each one.
See the 'Annual Overview Documents' below for more information about what projects are taught across the school.
Subjects that are not integrated into projects are taught discretely, following their own individual subject frameworks.

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development
At Bramble Infant School and Nursery we aspire to grow successful, lifelong learners who care for, respect and are curious about the world around them. Developing the Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural (SMSC) understanding of all of our children is an important part of our vision.
We actively promote the development of SMSC through our own school and nursery STAR values and through our exciting, unique curriculum.
Core Values in British Society
There are many aspects of our curriculum which support the children's understanding of and engagement with the Core Values in British Society. Please see the summary document below.
